I Need a Butterfly Farm!

I recently was lucky enough to visit the Butterfly Rainforest at the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. It was so amazing! If you get a chance to go, I highly recommend it!

I am a butterfly lover and up until now I really had no idea how many different kinds there are. There are approximately 12-15,000 species! Wow! To many, they say a butterfly is a butterfly. Well, that is far from the truth! This was one of the most incredible experiences I have had.

The rainforest is a partially screened enclosure which allows the butterflies to stayed contained while still living in a natural habitat. I have supplied the link to their website (above) so you can learn more about all the fabulous things they do to help these beautiful creatures survive. They also provide ways to donate if you should feel moved to do so.

The exhibit includes a wall (that goes on forever, I couldn’t capture it all) that shows all the different butterflies around the world. It also includes viewing areas where you can see how they grow the butterflies from the chrysalis stage and keep them safe until they are ready to be released.

Once you enter the habitat, there is a path to follow which takes you around the wonderful landscaping of tropical vegetation to view the butterflies. It even includes a Koi pond. And if you are still, you may wind up with several new friends! 🙂

I was filled with so much wonder that I wanted to share my experience and the beautiful pictures of these fabulous creatures I took. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them. I told my husband that I wanted a butterfly farm…….of course that probably wont happen but one can dream, right? lol

  2. This is absolutely beautiful. Butterflies are my favorite also. I’m sorry I didn’t see this. I love it and you did a wonderful job telling your story. ❤❤❤
